Get To Know TY Fonts

Introduce yourself

My name is TY, and I am a recording artist/ graphic artist from Chicago IL.

When did you first start getting into making music?

My life was always heavily influenced by music. While growing up my surroundings allowed me to build my own taste in music. My mom put me on to a lot of hip-hop and R&B that still inspires me to this day. Then I started skating very young and getting into the punk rock era. I found YouTube and started listening to everything. I am a huge anime fan so when I discovered AMVs I started getting more in tune with more alternative rock music. which people did judge me for, but fuck them I just wish I felt like that at the time. I didn’t start making music until high school. The one day I showed up to class we were assigned to do poetry, so I write my poem and turn it into my teacher. He pulled me to the side and told me he wanted to publish it. I wasn’t really wanting him too but I didn’t think anything of it. At the time all my homies were rapping so it was the incentive to pursue my dreams with music.

Haven’t heard any new music from you in a while, does that mean we can be expecting something dropping soon?

I Know bro I hate it! I have so much music I don’t know what to do right now. Tape, EP or singles, but deciding a single has also been a struggle for me. I’m trying to learn how to exercise patience. Everything is coming real soon tho and is either finished or being mixed down in preparation for release. my brother jake Mela dropped peep lord 2 featuring me on Thanksgiving so everyone can check that out for now. My biggest concern right now is the marketing branding and balancing my music and designs.

How’s everyone in Fonts Nation doing?

Everyone’s coo working and doing them.

On top of music, you’re also an illustrator/designer. Do you like designing more or making music?

No comparison honestly they go hand n hand when it comes to my personal projects. I get excited to make music for my art and art for my music the process is different but the goal is similar. it really challenges my artistic muscles.

I remember you and Bryant Giles collaborating on a piece together a few years back. Did that ever come out? And can we expect any more collabs with Bryant or other artists?

Bryant is like a brother to me. All the artwork we worked on is more of a momento of time so we never released it, plus our art styles have flourished since high school. I have a lot of new collabs coming with Clutch Jake Mela Malik Ismail Adot Dali Austin Freako and more.
