GET FAMILIAR WITH RXMN

Introduce yourself

My name RXMN pronounced Roman. There’s no special significance behind it besides beginning a new chapter in life musically.

How was life growing up?

I’ve always loved music. One of the first albums I got was Lauryn Hills Miseducation album. I loved her so much. I finally decided to go after my dream of being an artists after seeing Sammie’s ‘I like it’ video. I thought if he could do it, I could do it. So I started practicing and writing. I fell in love with harmonies and background vocals, I learned piano scales and gradually got better. Then seeing my cousin become successful at following his passion for hip hop made me even more motivated to go after my dream.

When did you first start getting into music?
The earliest I can remember, I started writing music in about 4th grade. I got in trouble in for writing a song in class (because it wasn’t what I was suppose to be doing), so I was always shy about singing in front of people and sharing my gift. I was always talked down on and told “you can’t sing”, since about 4th grade. So I focused, joined choirs and practiced.  I started to actually record music when I turned 16. I asked for a mic for Christmas and made my own little studio.
How was it being on Lupe’s past project and going on tour with him?
It was such a dream come true. I played him my song ‘Party’ last summer and he loved it. He asked me to write and record a couple hooks for him. So I did ofcourse. Only ‘More Than My Heart’ was the one he chose to keep me for. Then later that summer he asked me if I wanted to go on tour with him and the answer was a swift “YES”. I actually had to quit a job to go on tour with him, but it was definitely worth it! I was able to learn a lot from him, about crowds and learn about myself. It was very enlightening.
Talk about your project Melanin Summers
So I wrote the Melanin Summers EP last summer to put out something and begin working towards building support in the Chicago music scene. I wanted to make something to highlight different summer vibes. 1. Pinocchio highlights specifically the black summer regarding police brutality. It was something I felt strongly about. 2. Summer Rain highlights the peaceful summer vibes the rain creates from my perspective. 3. Hands highlights the love vibes. No protect of mine is complete without a song about love lol. 4. Party highlights only good vibes, for everyone. I wanted a song to celebrate good vibes. So I wanted to take people from vibe to vibe with this EP.
Talk about this visual EP you are working on
So the visual EP is something extremely new for me. I always have visuals to songs in my head, so now to attempt and create those visuals, is ambitious for me. I wanted all of the videos to be cohesive and connected. So, I’m excited to finish it and put it out. I believe it’s going to be a great launch pad for me to continue working on visuals to my music. The project as of right now is called “The Summer We Lost”. I already released 2 singles from it (TRAGIC & GONE).
When it’s all said and done how would you like to be remembered?
That’s a hard question to answer, to be honest. I definitely want people thinking good things when they think of my music. I want them to remember my creativity with vocal choices, harmonies, vibes, and artistry.  I want to be remembered as an artist with dope projects across the board. But I think right now, in this moment, I just want to be remembered.
